Sport 2 Shield Sunglasses — Black/Silver, Mirrored Lens

John Galliano's Dior eyewear treated sport as a costume to be perfected rather than a function to be served, and the Sport line is where that argument is cleanest. Where the Ski and Golf shields borrow their silhouettes from the slope and the fairway, the Sport 2 borrows its mechanics: an oversized single-lens mask built so that the arms disappear when the glasses come off. It is one of the house's early-2000s shields that collectors hunt precisely because the engineering is as much the point as the logo.

The lens is one continuous sweep of mirrored smoke, wrapping the face from temple to temple with no rim to interrupt it and a slim bridge seated low at the centre — the mirror finish turns the whole shield into a reflective surface rather than a window. At each side sits a black circular housing ringed in silver-tone metal and marked with the Dior script in silver, and the fine wire temples feed back into it: retract them and the arms curl away into the disc, collapsing the frame into something close to a flat visor. The temple carries the house reference 6LB3C 115. Black, silver and mirror keep the whole object severe; nothing here is decorative except the logo, and even that does mechanical work.

It reads as a piece of sports equipment re-specified for the runway — the visor of a downhill racer, stripped of padding and straps and given a couture finish. That tension between athletic hardware and luxury surface is the entire Galliano-era Dior proposition compressed into one object, and in black and silver mirror it is at its most wearable without losing any of its strangeness.
