Ring XL Leather Tote Bag — Noir

Alaïa has rarely leaned on hardware for identity — the house's vocabulary runs through drape and silhouette far more often than through metal. The Ring XL breaks that pattern on purpose, making a pair of rings the entire structural premise of the bag.

Two polished gold-tone rings sit at either side of the opening, and a single rolled top handle threads through both, so the tote has no closure, no frame and no fixed shape of its own. Carried by the handle, the leather gathers and the body draws in; set down, it opens flat and wide. Smooth black calfskin throughout, unstructured and soft, lined in the same calfskin rather than the canvas or suede most totes fall back on, with a detachable zip pouch hanging inside on its own leather strap. Carried by hand or on the shoulder. Made in Italy.

The ring isn't decoration here — it is the whole idea, and everything else about the Ring XL exists to prove it works. The volume changes with use rather than with a zip or a clasp, which makes it a daily bag with more character than any structured tote. One size.
