Trash Can Chain Shoulder Bag — Grey

Jeremy Scott ran Moschino on a single, durable joke: that luxury could be built from the most disposable things in the culture. Fries cartons, cereal boxes and cleaning-spray bottles all became handbags under his watch. For Fall/Winter 2017 he followed the idea to its logical end. The Milan show was assembled from cardboard, bubble wrap, dry-cleaning plastic and crumpled packaging, with gowns that looked like burst bin liners. If the clothes were the garbage, this bag was the place they were headed. It is the receptacle itself, rendered as an evening bag, carried down the runway as Look 43 and released straight off it in the house's see-now-buy-now capsule.
The body is a compact, structured cylinder ribbed vertically like a municipal bin, tapering slightly toward the base the way the real thing does. The lid carries the punchline. It is a domed cap with radiating fluted ridges and a raised bar handle stamped with the MOSCHINO name, hinged at the back so it flips open onto a textile-lined interior. A chunky silver-tone chain attaches at either side, long enough to wear on the shoulder or wrapped once around the wrist. The whole object is finished in a flat, matte grey that reads more like galvanised steel than leather.
It is the purest one-liner Scott made at Moschino. Franco Moschino spent the 1980s and '90s mocking the fashion system from inside it, and his successor answered by putting a price tag on the trash can. That makes the bag a joke, but a precise one, and the clearest single object from one of the most talked-about collections of his tenure. One size.
