Cut-Up Detachable-Sleeve Ribbed Sweater — Navy, Size M

Demna's Balenciaga made deconstruction the house's second language, and by Fall/Winter 2022 he was applying it to the most familiar objects in the wardrobe. This sweater walked as Look 9 of that runway, and its argument is precise: the cut goes exactly where knitwear least expects it, at the upper arm, severing the sleeve from the body so a classic high-neck rib becomes something closer to architecture.

Compressed wool-stretch rib in deep navy, knitted to map close to the body — second-skin through the torso, with real give engineered into the rib. An engineered cut-out at each upper arm divides the garment into a short cap sleeve above and a long, detached arm below, with a clean sculptural gap running between them. High neckline, a body that finishes at the high hip, and extra-long sleeves cut to stack past the wrist exactly as styled on the runway. Made in Italy.

Worn whole, it reads as a razor-sharp navy turtleneck with a secret; styled apart, it becomes the most photographed thing in the room. It is Demna's deconstruction reduced to a single gesture in knit — the one experimental piece a disciplined wardrobe actually needs, and a numbered runway look rather than a diffusion echo of one.
