Lacquered-Effect Oversized Down Jacket — Black, Size FR 38 / US 6

Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent is a house of the night: black, sharp-shouldered and built around a woman who dresses for the hours after dark. For Pre-Fall 2022 he carried that sensibility into the least likely garment in the wardrobe, the down puffer, and gave it the finish of patent evening shoes. The result is a technical coat that refuses to look technical, a cold-weather piece conceived like eveningwear.

The shell is a lacquer-effect fabric with a wet, mirrored gloss that catches every crease of the padding beneath it. The volume is enormous: a high funnel collar stands up around the jaw, the shoulders drop away into wide, rounded sleeves, and the body falls as a single cocoon to a padded band at the hem, so the coat moves around the wearer rather than with her. Inside, it is fully lined in black twill. Made in Italy.

What it reads as is a duvet cut by a couturier: the comfort object of winter dressing turned into something armoured and glamorous, closer to an opera coat than a ski jacket. Worn over a slim black base, it does all the work of a look on its own. Size FR 38 / US 6 / IT 42.
