Rick Owens named his Spring/Summer 2023 womenswear collection EDFU, after the Temple of Horus on the Nile — a season built around his retreat to Egypt, and the one that introduced his oil-slick iridescent finish into the otherwise gray-black-white Owens palette. This prong-detail gown is a piece from that run: coated denim treated to shift between green, gold, and aqua depending on the light, worn the way Owens intends his color moments to be worn — as an event, not a background.
The construction is classic Owens architecture underneath the finish. A strapless, sculptural neckline is cut open at the bust with his signature prong hardware, the metal reading as fastening and ornament at once. The bodice draws down through precision draping at the hip into a liquid, fluid line, landing at a floor-length hem left with intentional wrinkling — the avant-garde finish Owens uses to keep even his most polished pieces looking unresolved. Fully lined throughout for structure and wearability.
This isn't eveningwear in the conventional sense — it's Owens' idea of eveningwear, iridescence standing in for embellishment and prong hardware standing in for a clasp. For the wardrobe that wants the runway piece rather than the diffusion version of it.
