Prada's case for nylon begins in 1984, when Miuccia Prada took Pocono, a military-grade nylon woven for tents and parachutes, and made a backpack out of it. Within a decade the material had become the backbone of the house's menswear and of Linea Rossa, its technical sport line, and the argument has never changed: an industrial fabric, handled with the discipline of tailoring, is a luxury fabric. The down gilet is that argument at its most compressed. Take away the sleeves and the hood, and what remains is only the nylon, the quilting and the fill, cut to sit under a wool coat in deep winter or over a knit on its own.

The shell is a lightweight nylon with a fine ripstop grid and a soft, low sheen, stitched into quilted channels that hold the down evenly through the chest and back so the body never slumps or bunches at the hem. A funnel neck rises above the collarbone and closes with the full-length front zip, sealing out wind without the bulk of a hood. Inside, the lining is a glossier nylon in a paler sage, a quiet tonal shift you only see when the gilet is open. Reference SGH384, made in Vietnam.

It reads as Prada's uniform logic applied to the most utilitarian layer in a man's wardrobe, the vest worn equally on a trail and over a dress shirt, rebuilt by the house that taught fashion to take nylon seriously.
