Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez took over Loewe in 2025, and the Type sandal is the piece that made the fashion internet stop and look. Within days of its late-summer 2026 release it was being picked apart across social feeds and the style press, half the audience calling it a gimmick and the other half wanting a pair anyway, which is exactly how an it shoe announces itself. The argument underneath is a clean break from the Anderson years. Where Anderson let a fold or a stamp carry the house, the Type makes the hardware the name: five metal buckles, each cast as a letter, spell LOEWE across the straps, so the logo is not applied to the shoe but is its only ornament.

The upper is vegetable-tanned calfskin in black, cut as crossing straps over the foot. The five oversized letters sit on those straps with the pin-and-loop look of working buckles, though none of them adjusts; the fit is fixed and the metal is there to be read, not used. The toe is a classic open round shape. Underfoot, a contoured fussbett footbed is covered in soft calf with LOEWE printed on the insole, and a rubber outsole carries the Anagram embossed into its tread. Made in Italy.

From across a room it reads as a sturdy multi-buckle sandal; up close it resolves into type, a nameplate for the foot, which is precisely why it travelled so fast. It is a logo sandal for people who dislike logo sandals, and core black is the version that outlasts the moment: the vegetable-tanned leather darkens and softens with wear, so the letters only sharpen.
