Colorblock Bomber Jacket — Multicolor, Size IT 48 / US 38

Jonathan Anderson founded JW Anderson in London in 2008, and the tonal anchor embroidered on its hoodies and quilted jackets is the house's quietest mark. On those pieces the anchor is stitched in the same shade as the ground, so it registers only up close. This bomber reverses the proportion. The anchor stays tonal, but the body around it is cut into panels of red, pink, lavender, ivory, teal and sand, so color carries the garment and the logo is left to murmur. It takes the label's casual vocabulary of bomber, hood and rib trim and pushes it toward patchwork, away from the single-shade quilting of its tonal-anchor pieces.

The shell is quilted cotton blended with elastane, with a smooth, structured hand. Six colors are pieced as separate panels, so the seams double as the color breaks rather than being hidden inside a printed pattern. The hood is oversized and cut in a contrasting shade from the body, and embroidered JW Anderson lettering runs across the back. At the front, the anchor is embroidered tone on tone, close to the fabric in color. Rib-knit cuffs and a rib-knit hem finish the silhouette, and a full front placket covers the closure so the front reads as one uninterrupted plane of color.

Read it as a hybrid: a sports bomber in outline, a patchwork quilt in surface, and a hooded outer layer in volume. The hidden placket and the tonal anchor keep it from tipping into costume, which is what makes the loud palette wearable rather than novelty. It is menswear that borrows the logic of a craft quilt without giving up the clean closure of a technical jacket. Size IT 48 (US 38).
