Pique Sellier Silk Tie — Navy, 7cm

Hermès opened in 1837 as a maker of harnesses and saddles for carriage horses, and the equestrian vocabulary never left the house — it simply migrated into silk, leather goods and ready-to-wear as the carriages disappeared. The Pique Sellier tie belongs to that lineage twice over: its name refers to the saddler's stitch, and its motif nods directly to the original boutique at 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the address Hermès has occupied since 1880. It was designed by Cyrille Diatkine, one of the house's long-running tie designers.
Cut from heavy silk and hand-sewn, in the 7cm width Hermès uses for its more restrained ties rather than the wider classic. The face is plain navy — no repeating print, no visible pattern at conversational distance — and the Pique Sellier motif is instead revealed in contrast on the tail, the part of the tie that sits hidden behind the blade when worn properly. 100% silk, made in France.
It reads as the anti-Hermès Hermès tie: the house built its tie business on loud, collectable prints, and this one hides its entire design where only the person wearing it will ever see it. A piece for someone who already owns the printed ones. One size.
