Leather Mule Shoes — Brown, Spike Studs, EU 43 / US 10

Christian Louboutin's reputation rests on two devices: the lacquered sole and the heel height that made it visible. The spike arrived later and from a different direction — it entered through the men's line in the early 2010s, on the Rollerboy slipper and the Louis Junior sneaker, where studded hardware gave a house built on women's evening footwear a second, harder register. This mule belongs to that second lineage rather than the first. It takes the stud off the occasion shoe entirely and sets it on a flat, backless slip-on, the least ceremonial silhouette the house makes.

The upper is brown leather, cut as a single vamp band across the forefoot with an open back and a rounded toe, and finished with the spike stud hardware set into the leather rather than applied over it. The heel is flat. The outsole is leather rather than rubber, which puts this closer to a dress slipper in construction than to the moulded-sole slides most houses default to for the shape. Made in Italy.

What it reads as is a house signature translated into something wearable on an ordinary day — the studding doing the recognition work that the heel and the sole normally handle, without the occasion attached to either.
