Gloss Padded Down Jacket — Brown, Size S

Daniel Lee spent his years at Bottega Veneta making a famously quiet house loud and physical: the padded Cassette bag, the puddle boot, leather pushed into inflated, almost cartoonish volumes. His Autumn/Winter 2021 collection, shown in Berlin, carried that logic into outerwear, building much of it around exaggerated, padded shapes. This jacket takes the most ordinary garment of winter, the down jacket, and inflates it until it reads less like clothing and more like an object.

The shell is a technical polyamide with a high-shine coating, quilted all over and filled with down, so every channel catches the light the way lacquered leather would. In deep chocolate brown, the gloss gives the colour depth rather than flat shine, shifting from near-black in the folds to warm bronze on the high points. A tall funnel neck hides a hood that packs into a zip pocket at the nape, the cuffs are elasticated, and a drawstring at the hem lets the volume be pulled in or left to balloon. Side pockets finish it. Made in Italy.

What it reads as is Lee's Bottega distilled: a familiar shape made strange by scale and surface, quiet in colour and loud in everything else. It comes from late in his tenure, when the house's new language was fully formed, and it remains one of the most recognisable outerwear pieces of that era. Size S.
