Daniel Lee's Bottega Veneta is remembered for oversized shapes and heavy leather, and its Pre-Fall 2020 collection pairs tailoring with streetwear ease. These knee strap trousers are a quiet example of that turn. There is no intrecciato here and no leather at all: the house signature of visible craft on the surface gives way to a stretch polyamide trouser cut straight and high on the waist. The entire argument of the design is carried by one detail at each knee, a strap fastened with snaps and studded in silver-tone hardware, placed where trousers rarely show any.

The shell is 88% polyamide and 12% elastane, a dense weave with a slight spring that holds the straight leg cleanly, over a full cotton lining. The waist carries belt loops and closes with a concealed zip and hook plus a hidden button, so the front stays flat. Slash pockets are cut into the side seams, and a welt pocket sits at the back above tonal darts. At each knee a strap wraps across the leg and snaps shut, finished with silver-tone studs; it is the only element that breaks the tone-on-tone sewing. The inseam measures 31.9 inches and the straight hems finish at 8.7 inches across when laid flat. Made in Italy.

Read quickly, these are slim office trousers; read slowly, they are utility gear that has learned the manners of tailoring. The knee straps work like a harness for the leg, a piece of restraint with no load to carry, while the saturated blue and the stretch keep the whole thing civil.
